CARBONDALE, Ill. — Borum Roof Company, a Southern Illinois-based residential and commercial roofing company founded by Darrick Borum in 2024, has committed $15,000 to the SIH Foundation in support of the Coach Kill Cancer Fund, becoming the first matching sponsor of the SIU Salukis Blackout Cancer Football Game.
Through this partnership, Borum Roof Company’s gift will be used to match donations made through several of the game’s signature fundraising efforts, including the Coaches Item auction, QB1 jersey auction and broader campaign giving.
“At Borum Roof Company, we talk a lot about roofing with a purpose,” said Darrick Borum, owner. “Supporting the Coach Kill Cancer Fund is exactly that – an opportunity to put our resources to work for something bigger than the bottom line. We’re proud to stand behind the SIH Foundation and the patients they serve.”
The partnership was made possible through the support and dedication of our partners at Saluki Sports Properties, who have a long history of building bridges between local businesses and the broader SIU community, and this partnership is a testament to that commitment.
“It is truly inspiring to see a local business step up in such a meaningful way for cancer patients right here in Southern Illinois. Borum Roof Company’s commitment doesn’t just add dollars to the Fund – it sends a powerful message that our community stands beside those who are fighting cancer,” said SIH Foundation Major Gifts Manager Katie Day. “That kind of generosity changes lives.”
The Coach Kill Cancer Fund provides direct financial assistance to patients throughout the southern 16 counties of Illinois for needs including transportation, prescriptions, lodging, nutrition and medical equipment. Since its founding, it’s supported more than 2,600 patients.
“Matching gifts create momentum. Borum Roof Company’s commitment gives every donor an opportunity to see their support go further, while helping us generate even greater impact for cancer patients across Southern Illinois,” said SIH Foundation Director Jennifer Sigler, Ph.D. “It is a meaningful addition to a Blackout tradition that SIH and SIU have built together over more than a decade — one rooted in honoring those impacted by cancer and rallying our community around the patients and families we serve.”
